Why Inagene

A Canadian-built, managed PGx program you can trust

The Program Behind the Test

Not all pharmacogenetic programs are built the same. The difference between a test that generates a report and a program that drives measurable outcomes comes down to a chain that has to hold at every link:

01

The breadth of the panel

02

The standard of evidence behind it

03

The safety and security of the data you put in it

04

The quality of the lab producing it

05

The support built around it

Not All PGx Programs Are Equal

Capability Standard PGx Programs Inagene
Genes analyzed 15–25 genes 48 genes
Variants covered Limited 123 variants
Medications covered 100–150 240+
Canadian-owned and operated lab Varies
CLIA, COLA, and CAP accredited Varies
Health Canada licensed Varies
ISO27001 certification
Evidence standard* Varies — some use lower thresholds Expert guidelines and standards including CPIC and others
Always up to date
Diverse population coverage Limited — most panels based on limited demographics Broad variant coverage across diverse populations
Pharmacist consultation included
Account management and member engagement support
Plan-level outcomes reporting

*A note on evidence standards: some PGx providers include medication-gene associations at lower levels of clinical evidence, flagging interactions that are technically detectable but not yet actionable. Inagene includes only associations meeting the most rigorous thresholds, ensuring every recommendation in a member's report is clinically meaningful and defensible.

Five Reasons Organizations Trust Inagene

01

Canada’s Most Comprehensive PGx Panel

Inagene analyzes 48 genes and 123 variants (and growing) — more than any other pharmacogenetic test available in Canada. Standard panels are typically built on data from limited demographic populations, which means they may miss clinically significant variants in members from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Inagene’s broader coverage serves the full diversity of Canadian plan populations.

02

Canadian Lab. Canadian Data. Complete Member Privacy.

Inagene owns and operates a fully dedicated, Canadian PGx laboratory, independently accredited to the highest international clinical laboratory standards and licensed by Health Canada (#9922). Every sample is analyzed on Canadian soil, and all member genetic data is stored in Canadian data centres, compliant with applicable privacy laws.

Results go directly to the member and their treating clinician — never to the employer, insurer, or plan administrator. For organizations embedding a genetic testing program into their benefit plan or case management workflow, this separation is essential.

03

The Highest Evidence Standard

Inagene’s testing protocols are based on leading pharmacogenomic guidelines including CPIC, DPWG, ClinPGx, FDA, CERSI-PGx, CPNDS, and others. We only add medication-gene associations that meet the most rigorous clinical evidence thresholds which prescribers can confidently act on.

04

Always Current

Pharmacogenetics is a rapidly evolving science. Inagene updates its medication-gene association database quarterly, adding new evidence-based guidance as it becomes available. A test completed today continues to grow in clinical relevance over time.

05

Built Around Utilization

A pharmacogenetic test that sits unused delivers no value. Inagene’s managed program includes dedicated account management, member communications support, and ongoing utilization tracking to ensure the right members are reached at the right time, and that program adoption translates into measurable outcomes. This is what separates a passive benefit from a program that performs.

What the Research Shows

Inagene's program is built on a foundation of peer-reviewed clinical evidence — not emerging science or proprietary claims. The pharmacogenetics behind our testing protocols has been validated across thousands of patients in published clinical trials.

78%

increased likelihood of remission for patients with major depressive disorder when prescribing is guided by pharmacogenetics

30%

reduction in adverse drug reactions when individual genetics guide prescribing decisions

>99%

of people carry gene variants that affect their response to at least one commonly used medication

Seen in Practice — Calian Health Pilot Study

Calian Health, a leading Canadian health services organization, piloted Inagene's pharmacogenetic testing program with 50 patients managing chronic pain and mental health conditions. The results demonstrated the real-world impact of PGx-guided prescribing on medication effectiveness, patient outcomes, and avoidable costs.

100%

of patients found a more effective treatment sooner and avoided unnecessary drug costs

98%

avoided medication side effects or had shorter absences due to lack of medication efficacy or side effects

$3,008

average per-patient savings projected over three years

3.3 years

average avoidable trial-and-error medication time per patient

Results are illustrative and may not be representative of all plan populations.

What People Are Saying

What Clinicians Are Saying

"About 80% of my patients have had to deal with trial and error in at least one or more of their medications — particularly with antidepressants, but also cholesterol, migraine, birth control, and hormone therapy. It's very prevalent."

Bianca McGuinness

Pharmacist — Edmonton, AB (9 years of practice)

What Plan Members Are Saying

"I sent my results to my doctor and we agreed to put me on Zoloft. I've been on it for about three months now with almost no side effects — it was a really smooth transition.

When you keep trying different antidepressants and they're not working, you almost start feeling like you're crazy, so it was really validating to see that the ones I had tried had come up as the ones that don't agree with me."
