Dr. Siminovitch is an internationally recognized clinician-scientist, rheumatologist and leader in genomic and precision medicine. A Professor of Medicine and Immunology at the University of Toronto and a senior investigator at Sinai Health’s Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, she has spent more than four decades investigating the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying immune dysfunction. Her landmark contributions include mapping the gene responsible for Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and identifying important genetic risk factors and biological pathways associated with rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, vasculitis and other autoimmune conditions. Her work has advanced the understanding of immunological disease while supporting the development of more precise diagnostic tools and individualized therapies.
Dr. Siminovitch has also founded and led major programs that translate genomic discovery into patient care, including the Fred A. Litwin Family Centre in Genetic Medicine, the Mount Sinai Hospital - University Health Network Clinical Genomics Centre, a Centre of Excellence in Precision Medicine in Autoimmune Disease and the University of Toronto’s Clinician-Scientist Training Program. As the founding scientist of Inagene, she has helped bring evidence-based pharmacogenetic testing and personalized medicine into more accessible, everyday health care.
A Fellow of both the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, Dr. Siminovitch received the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine’s Dean’s Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award in 2026. Beyond medicine, she co-founded and helped sustain the Siminovitch Prize in Theatre, reflecting a career-long commitment to excellence, innovation and public contribution across science, health care, education and the arts.
